Wise is funky rock outfit from NYC whose six-track self-titled release has the late '80s and early '90s punk metal hybrid sound made famous by bands like Suicidal Tendencies with a dash of D.C. punk circa 1984. Booming guitars and straightforward beats emit a near hip-hop feel, especially on the bouncy "You're Talkin' to Me". While there's not a whole lot of depth in the lyrics on Wise's disc, the music underneath it all kicks out the jams with the kind of free form feel that mixes Parliament Funkadelic, Infectious Grooves, and a slice of the Chili Peppers into one big heavy funk hodgepodge.
