BLACK ON BLACK A
TRIBUTE TO BLACK FLAG |
LINKS:

Initial Records brought forth some of the biggest names in the hardcore underground to pay tribute to the massively influential Black Flag. Converge, Burnt By The Sun, and The Dillinger Escape Plan (among others) tear through a selection of the ground breaking band's material on Black On Black. |

Converge is absolutely brutal, powering through "Annihilate This Week" while Burnt By The Sun hits a nice groove on "Drinking And Driving". DEP's take on "Damaged I & II" marks the first recording by the band with new vocalist Greg Puciato, who does a decent job recreating Henry Rollins' words. The volatile band Coalesce reunited briefly to record their take on "Jealous Again". Up and comers The Hope Conspiracy and Planes Mistaken For Stars also take successful swings at "Nervous Breakdown" and "Police Story/Wasted" respectfully. Black On Black was originally released as four separate seven inches that had limited runs and are pretty scarce now. Initial brought them all together, allowing the music to be embraced by a larger audience. Oftentimes tribute albums
are a waste of time and are strictly fans-only releases. Black On
Black bucks that trend by providing a bridge from the current hardcore
scene to its roots 20 years prior. |
