If you ask metal guitar god Kerry King of Slayer who some of his favorite bands of the last few years are, he is sure to answer Chimaira. King has championed the Cleveland band time and time again and for good cause.

With the release of their sophomore album, The Impossibility Of Reason, Chimaira has begun to garner a lot of attention, both within the industry and without. The six-piece, constantly referred to as part of the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal, combine classic metal elements to create something new that stands out above the legions of industry releases in the last few years.

The follow up to Pass Out of Existence (their 2001 Roadrunner release), The Impossibility of Reason is a dozen tracks of pure heavy metal. Drums crash, guitars thunder and the bellowing vocals hit like a hurricane.

The disc opens with the brutal attack of "Cleansation" and closes with a 13-minute epic instrumental named "Implements of Destruction". There and everywhere in between is a relentless attack.

With chugging guitars and double bass kicks, "The Dehumanizing Process" is one of the most brutal assaults. A chorus of "Bury my dreams, I will bury you!" sums up the "me against everyone and I win" attitude of the album.

"Down Again", the video of which has seen play on metal television shows, is the most accessible track on the disc, and the best. With a soft opening of piano and guitars warming into a raging fire of metal fury purists are sure to appreciate it. The chorus is catchy and recognizable with clean backing vocals working as a sounding board under the guttural yells of singer Mark Hunter. A sweet guitar solo transitioning into the original piano line serves as a perfect bridge to bring the song into the crashing finale.

With a live show as brutal as the music, Chimaira should be heard and seen by metal fans everywhere.
