Deconstruct's Sign Of Things To Come has a ballad-like background that seems to drag, creating chronic yawning. The deep, dreary vocals of Skitz not only make you depressed, but create a sensation of sleep. Not a good sign. Don't get me wrong, on shitty days, this is the ideal album to listen to. However, none of the tracks are memorable to me, except that dragging sound they call music, which never seems to end.
"I Am" is a sign of things to come from Deconstruct. Their beats not only drag along with the vocals, but there's no sign of life whatsoever. Not even a slight chance of the song reviving. "Deeper Down" presents a chance of creating energy, but Skitz's vocals kill it, and become more dreary. It may be better than their previous track, but boredom still rules Deconstruct's mood. It's surprising how Deconstruct, a band touring with Iron Maiden, seems to show no effort that they're in a rock band! Skitz improves his vocal strength in "New Skin," which provides a slight reminder of a typical Alice in Chains track. However, this generous comparison doesn't help the band at all. Their track still drags on and it's purely predictable as are their previous tracks. Just like their lyric "It kills me," Deconstruct kills my ears with their dying sounds. I was hoping "Decay" will change the entire mood around, but surely enough, it continues to be bleak, oppressed and just plain dull. I do feel that if this band were to loosen up and rock, they can present a surprising amount of bottled talent waiting to explode. At least they have Venessa, the bassist who represents a tough chick in a male-dominated band. Yet, I feel they're effortless in their music, which will keep them unnoticed in the dark. Stop being so predictable and melancholy! I wouldn't dare spend a dime on this, let alone fifteen minutes downloading their sample track at MP3.com.
