GRIMFIST GHOULS OF GRANDEUR CANDLELIGHT |
LINKS: |
| The
pool of talent in the metal world has seemed to erode faster than public
beaches over recent years as major labels have attempted to drown everyone
with their waste. While it is easy to get discouraged, there are still bands out there that can renew faith and satisfy the hunger for quality. Hailing out of the metal haven of Norway is Grimfist. |
||
| Made
up of members of Immortal (a band that might have called it quits permanently)
and Deride, Grimfist packs a brutal punch that conjures up old school death
metal thoughts of Death and Emperor and thrash stalwarts Metallica and Megadeth
(at times Ole Walaunet’s guitar work mirrors that of Kirk and Dave
back in the 80s). With producer Peter Tagtgren at the helm, Grimfist has released their Candlelight Records debut disc, Ghouls Of Grandeur. Ten tracks batter the listener with a barrage of double bass, growls, screams and thrash guitars. Despite such a sonic assault, Grimfist manages to find some atypical (for death metal) grooves and rhythms. Made up of Frediablo on vocals, Walaunet on guitar/bass and Horgh on drums, Grimfist was founded in back in October 2001. It took two years for the trio to create and release Ghouls Of Grandeur but it has proved to be time well spent. As death metal has began to find new audiences on this side of the pond, Grimfist is sure to attract a solid following. |
