From the land of tumbleweed and twangy country (Texas of course), the Lower Class Brats have brought old school punk back from the dead with The Plot Sickens.

The cover art quotes, “Real punk is an endangered species” and in music today that couldn’t be more on the mark.  Thankfully the 13-song LP does not mess up the timeless threads of true punk rock whatsoever.  There are no adaptations to a newer, more modern audience, just straight up punk rock.
Track 12,“Zi pper Kids” is a personal favorite.  The slightly distorted guitar sound, paired with “riot” featured lyrics, is the perfect throw back to the style of the old school.
The lyrics are fun yet challenging.  Track five, “Who Controls the Media”, deals with a topic underground acts have been dealing with for years.  Carson Daly probably has something to do with media control, but he is not mentioned in the song.   The only downside is that the lyrics are a little hokey on a few songs, like track seven “Psycho”.
Everything about this album, including the background chanting/chorus yelling is such a change of pace from the Simple Plan bullshit that passes as punk today.

(editor’s note: this was released in 2000, but they’ve just re-pressed it in vinyl, and besides I really dug their show with Roger Miret and the Disasters recently…worth a second visit…)
