So do you find yourself yearning for the old style of eighties bombastic neo-classical metal? Well, your days of waiting for new entries into this genre are over. Luca Turilli have studied it well and perform it to perfection.
Somewhere between Yngwie Malmsteen, Queensryche, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, they’ve composed and arranged an inspired mini-opera of the mind. Tracks such as “War of the Universe” and “Zephyr Skies’ Theme” contrast the two extremes of the style—pounding and up-tempo on the first and ambient and atmospheric on the latter. But it’s not just the metallic instrumentation here that makes the noise, there’s a full-blown orchestral arrangement backing it all up, which appeals to that inner band-geek child I’ve hidden so well.
