Snapcase has always been an intriguing type of hardcore-based band.  Since 1991, they have consistently put out complex yet definitively aggressive music.  Their newest release, End Transmission is no exception.  The aural bombast laid down by guitarist Frank Vicario, vocalist Daryl Taberski, bassist Dustin Perry, guitarist Jon Salemi, and drummer Ben Lythberg is ambitious beyond the confines of hardcore song structures or progressive metal epics.

Juxtaposing heavy bottom end with jazz syncopation drums and harmonic dissonance, Snapcase may just be the most innovative hybridizers in the world of rock.  Many have tried metallic jazz and progressive ska and such, but the level and complexity of the theory and composition behind songs such as “Exile Etiquette” and “Interrogation” are truly astounding.  The most wonderful thing is that although they incorporate jazz and progressive and noise and metal, they don’t lose the hard-edged angst of their hardcore roots.  They still put in the crunchingly crushing stuff like the opening track “Coagulate”.  But this is head music for the hardcore crowd.  Just imagine Tool as a bunch of punk/skins and you’ll be kinda close.  It’s trippy, but it’s also gut-wrenchingly heavy--one of those over-looked and undiscovered gems that is sure to go over a lot of people’s heads.
