Talented band, dumb band name. Despite the silly moniker, when a group has a name like Vampire Mooose, it's hard to know what to expect from such an entity. But, the four St. Louis scene veterans wouldn't have it any other way. When this band decides to get heavy, it grinds with unabashed viciousness, found in such songs as "Dose Mozaros" and the dastardly grooving "Colonize". And this band is decisively a heavy troupe, yet a few hints are dropped along the way showing that Vampire Mooose can mix it up, too, rivaling bands such as Candiria and Dillinger Escape Plan in the avant garde metal category. Vampire Mooose is dark and brooding, yet muscular and ultimately crushing, so maybe that bad band name actually fits and in fact describes this eclectic clan after all.
