| As emo-laced hardcore has become part of the mainstream, more and more bands are popping up to jump on the bandwagon. Connecticut’s With Honor is definitely not one of those bands. Signed to Stillborn Records, the quintet has re-released their debut self titled EP and proved that they have no desire to follow the masses. With Honor is a hardcore band, and the music makes no apologies for it. | ||
They may be straight edge, but it is hard to hold that against them. The positive message is powerful and the assault that goes with it is certainly well-arranged. The twin guitars do not drown each other out and the vocals come across clearly (well, for hardcore). With Honor uses some nice time signatures and quick breakdowns to set them apart from their peers. Those breakdowns may be a nod to emocore but the music advances like (what is now considered) old school hardcore. There is a direct evolution from speed kings Converge and Bane to With Honor. Unlike the two established bands, With Honor’s style doesn’t bludgeon the listener in the head; rather it fights alongside. If this EP is any indication, then the forthcoming full length album
will find much deserved success. |
